OK
I've been given the job of Trestleboard mechanic. I've got Microsoft Publisher and can drive it pretty well. What they have is OK, looking to jazz it up with a new format. The board comes to me on a 8.5 x 17 inch sheet that's folded in half.
Anybody have any existing formats they would like to share? Not trying to re-invent the wheel here, just trying to make it a little more interesting.

And when they put me in charge of the website, I'll have questions about that too!

Thanks

Brian

Here is ours...
http://www.pinallodge30.com/Trestleboards/Jun_2009.pdf

It's more informational about upcoming events than educational.
Also, it's done in Microsoft Publisher.

I'll be damned - that's one of the better ones I've seen. I'm amazed it was done in Publisher.

I have been doing the TB for about a year so I have refined it quite a bit from the original Template.

Nice one Brother Jeff Watts

Some good stuff in there..

I think that is one of the things which makes such a publication good.. that I can read it here in Australia and still find it interesting.

Do you only post it on line or do you email it, or a link to it, out as well ?

Thanks for the compliment! That is the "electronic" Trestleboard. We email it and we also have archived issues on our website at berkley536.org.

For the brothers with no computers or computer skills, we mail out a different version with no color and no educational articles to save on printing and postage costs.

Right now there are about 250 brothers getting the email version and around 75 that get the print version.

It's nice to hear your lodge members are open to electronic communication.
Too many are afraid of it and insist on spending too much money on postage.

TB postage and printing were one of the biggest expenses we had in our (never balanced) budget. We were getting a deal from the printer for layout and printing, but it was still a huge hole. In order to balance the budget, I slashed funds allocated to the TB, and actually made the ads we sold do some of the work in paying for the TB costs.

This year I also created an "opt-in" program, which included a form that was sent out with dues-notices. This form said that there would be no automatic distribution of the TB, and that if you wanted a TB, you had to send back the completed form which showed your choice between a nice full-color TB emailed to you, or a very toned down B&W version mailed to you.

Of course there was a ruckus, but they got over it, and our budget is actually doing pretty well for the year. Now if we could only get Jeff to start submitting his expenses for undertaking the printing himself!
