Not sure where this question belonged but since its about books ill try it here.. What is the best in depth and readable biography for Albert Pike? I have seen a few on amazon but cant trust alot of reviews there. Just trying to learn more about the man and with out as much BS as possible, Thanks for the help.

There's been a lot written about the guy. Heck, I wrote about him, too geek

IMHO, the best written about him are the newest and one of the oldest.

The newest is Walter Lee Brown's “A Life of Albert Pike”, (University of Arkansas Press, 1997). Highly readable, well researched and documented. A bit pricey. Used copies are hard to come by and new starts at about $42 (just did the Abebooks search).

The oldest if Fred W Allsopp's "The Life Story of Albert Pike", (Parke-Harper News Server, 1920). Quite dated, filled with fable and legend but also some tidbits Brown left out and a good basis for the beginning of any study on Pike. Price is right: Free. You can download it from Google Books here.

I second the recommendation for Walter Lee Brown's A Life of Albert Pike (University of Arkansas Press, 1997).
